Application of the PDMS Passive Sampling Method to Assess Bioavailability and Health Risks Associated with PAH-Contaminated Soil

چکیده

Integrating bioavailability into risk assessments is an effective way to objectively assess human health risks. In this study, the of 16 polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in contaminated soil from a coking plant was evaluated using polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) passive sampling method. The results showed that factor (BAF) each PAH, predicted PDMS fibers, ranged 0.46% 9.74%. method more stable testing PAHs with than 4 benzene rings; preliminary relationship established between BAF and log value octanol–water partition coefficient (logKow). After considering their bioavailability, carcinogenic risks (CRs) non-carcinogenic hazard quotients (HQs) associated were reduced by 1 2 orders magnitude. Only benzo(a)pyrene dibenzo(a,h)anthracene exceeded acceptable level. provides useful tool for estimating oral incorporating its exposure can help refine assessment contaminants through ingestion.

Fruits Contaminated with Lead, Cadmium and Nitrate are the Risks to Human Health: A seasonal study

Background: Consumers may be contaminated by various food intakes as one of the most important sources of organic and inorganic pollutants associated with agriculture. The aim of this study was to evaluate the lead (Pb), cadmium (Cd) and nitrate contaminations in watermelon and carrot samples and the associated risks to human health. Methods: In this cross sectional study, 108 samples of wat...

Ecological and human health risks associated with abandoned gold mine tailings contaminated soil

Gold mining is a major source of metal and metalloid emissions into the environment. Studies were carried out in Krugersdorp, South Africa, to evaluate the ecological and human health risks associated with exposure to metals and metalloids in mine tailings contaminated soils. Concentrations of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), cobalt (Co), copper (Cu), lead (Pb), manganese (Mn), nickel...

PCB and PAH speciation among particle types in contaminated harbor sediments and effects on PAH bioavailability.

This research provides particle-scale understanding of PCB and PAH distribution in sediments obtained from three urban locations in the United States: Hunters Point, CA; Milwaukee Harbor, WI; and Harbor Point, NY. The sediments comprised mineral grains (primarily sand, silt, and clays) and carbonaceous particles (primarily coal, coke, charcoal, pitch, cenospheres, and wood). The carbonaceous se...

Review Paper: Application of Histomorphological Method to Assess Meat Products

Meat is rich in protein, minerals, and vitamins and therefore a main source of the human diet. Meat products are usually made from processed red meat and preservatives such as nitrate, to improve the overall quality of the food. Histologically, meat is mainly composed of skeletal muscle fibers, water, adipose and connective tissues. Growing bodies of evidence suggests that unauthorized ingredie...
